Arrogant vs Humble

Thursday, should I say "thirst-day"?. In my clinic, this day is always full by the crowd. Normally I have to attend about 100 patients per morning. You can imagine how exhausted I am during that day. Usually I started at 8.30 in the morning, and finish by noon. No tea break in the middle!!!! Getting slimmer!!! I think nowadays people are keened to visit government clinics; perhaps, our facilities are better than private sector or maybe the gentleness of the docs, and also not to forget the front liner (our staffs) are upgrading themselves to be more corporate oriented. I am very happy to see this scenario goes on. As a coordinator of my clinic, my target is to ensure the surrounding community aware of their oral health and willing twice a year to come for a dental check-up. The motivation in me, hopefully can influent my staff to work harder helping the community on the knowledge of dental health and try to change their perception. At the rural area, (like my town) the mentality of taking good care of teeth rarely becomes the priority. Why? Maybe teeth are not so important. But.... if you have very bad condition of teeth, you can even do your work!!!!...then the dentist will be in your mind. This is bad. You come to see us because you got sick with your own teeth....we also become bored with you!!!! Patient usually request for extraction. I said all right, if the tooth was none on the gum surface, but if the tooth still has a good support why need extraction. As a dentist we should explain any alternative treatment so that they know "ooo boleh selamat lagi gigi ni...". Many dentists (same as medical) neglect patient -doctor relationship. Patient is human. They want us to pay more attention on their problem. Take a minute , listen to their story. Give them some idea, if the case worst, then make a referral. For me to be a doctor is easy, you pass every exam, then you are qualified. But to be a first class, compassionate doctor is not that easy. Title of "Dr" itself is not to be arrogant, snobbish etc. If we have those kinds of character, better think twice. Don't be a doctor...wallahuallam
